Who are Local PEI Champions?

Anyone and everyone! We want people who are involved or know of local, regional, national or international groups to invite these associates/colleagues to Prince Edward Island for their next meeting, convention or sporting event. The Prince Edward Island Convention Partnership needs YOU to extend the personal invitation to the group. We will then support your effort assisting with the fine details. What is the Economic Spin-off of hosting a meeting, convention or sporting event on PEI?

A meeting of 50 delegates generates $46,600 to the economy, 250 delegates equals $233,000. This modest figure does not include transportation, pre and post vacation spending, companion spending or exhibitor spending.

In 2006, meetings and conventions generated over $22M to the Prince Edward Island economy. Of the 161 meetings booked, 50% were booked by fellow Islanders.

Why become a Local PEI Champion?

• Our Local PEI Champions tell us that hosting an event on PEI is personally gratifying. Islanders like to share their love of the Island with others.
• Local colleagues will have the opportunity to attend educational and professional development meetings that they often would not have the chance to attend when the meeting takes place outside PEI.
• Extended family members will get the chance to see their loved ones compete in sporting tournaments. This is often not possible when tournaments are held elsewhere.
• Delegates from across Canada (and beyond) are delighted to come to PEI, usually sighting it as their best conference ever. PEI enjoys a 10-15% higher attendance rate than meetings hosted elsewhere.
• The PEI Convention Partnership hosts an annual Recognition Reception to honor Local PEI Champions for their dedication and hard work in inviting and organizing a meeting, convention or sporting event on PEI.

How can The PEI Convention Partnership assist?

• We are available to meet with board and committee members to outline our complimentary services and the benefits of hosting a meeting, convention or sporting event on PEI.
• We can prepare the bid proposal and presentation. We ask Local PEI Champions to endorse and support this process.
• We can arrange site inspections and gather proposals.
• We are committed to offering our Local PEI Champions ongoing communication and support.
• We offer several tools to aid in the planning and promotion of your PEI meeting such as our Meeting Planner’s Guide, a pull up display, a new Come Early Stay Late program, and a variety of tool to assist in Promoting Your Conference.
